Wendy’s Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit Review – Fast Food Menu Prices

Being a southern girl, I’m a huge fan of breakfast biscuits, especially biscuit sandwiches. Fast food and casual dining restaurants put their spin on these buttery baked delights, which makes me happy because they remind me of my grandmother’s biscuit creations when I was a kid.

There are quite a few breakfast biscuits available, but some are only available for a limited time, and some just don’t quite cut it as far as flavor and value. Wendy’s has experimented with offering several breakfast menu items since the 1980s, including breakfast biscuits, so how does it stand up to competition these days? With their new Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, they just might have a winner.

Wendy’s is known primarily for its beef, but the franchise has expanded into the chicken world by offering chicken sandwiches and their new Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, which was just rolled out in March 2020 across their 6,000 stores in the US. This isn’t the first time they’ve introduced a breakfast menu. In the 1980s and the mid-2000s, Wendy’s offered breakfast menu items to around 300 locations, but the items were pulled because they didn’t receive the results they were hoping for, and the quality didn’t meet consumers’ expectations. But their new menu, including the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, may have earned the franchise the results they’ve been hoping for.

Other big names like McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King have all introduced breakfast items, so why shouldn’t Wendy’s get in on the action? They’ve proven themselves successful with their chicken sandwiches, especially the spicy ones – yum! So now is their time to shine.

Types of Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit

The only real variation of the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is the Combo Meal, which comes with a side of seasoned potato wedges and a coffee. If you’re looking for a plain biscuit or different fillings or flavors, Wendy’s offers five other biscuits and biscuit sandwiches. Each of those may also be ordered as a combo meal.

Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit Review

Wendy’s new Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is a crispy chicken fillet, seasoned with a bit of pepper and topped with maple honey butter. Placed inside a fluffy buttermilk biscuit, it’s a tasty blend of sweet and savory flavors – a delicious way to start the morning.

1.      Taste and Texture [4/5]

The biscuit itself has a soft, dense, spongy texture that’s different from other big-name fast-food breakfast players, like McDonald’s or Chick-fil-A, but it’s flavorful in its way. I like the southern-style buttermilk taste to it. The texture is doughy but flakey, so it almost melts in your mouth. The buttery flavor combined with the honey butter is savory and sweet, which also pairs well with the chicken.

The chicken patty inside is not as thick as other fast-food restaurants, but I don’t mind because it’s easier to eat when I’m on the go. The patty is a crispy fillet, seasoned just right – not too breaded, not too spicy. There’s a slight pepper taste, which I enjoy, and I love the contrast of the spice with the light honey butter spread. The chicken is a bit wider than the biscuit, so it feels like you’re getting a better value, but it’s also flatter than some of the competitions’ patties. Together, the flavors work well, and I enjoy it.

2. Are they Healthy? [2/5]

Each Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit has 500 calories, which is more than some hamburgers. So for the size, this seems a bit high. However, I don’t mind taking in more calories in the morning, and being more careful as the day goes on. At least I’d have the opportunity to walk it off (which, by the way, takes 139 minutes).

The good news is that Wendy’s chicken is free of added hormones, preservatives, or steroids. The franchise is mindful of its food sourcing, and its ingredients are fresh – never frozen.

Keep in mind that Wendy’s cannot guarantee that any product is free of allergens as they use shared equipment and preparation areas for all of their food.

3. Are they Worth it? [3/5]

The Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is a little pricey for its size, and the price seems to vary by state. I can’t bring myself to pay over $3 for a single biscuit, but I do appreciate that Wendy’s offers special deals and coupons online. You can also try one for free if you order via their mobile app (for a limited time).

I also like the combo meal with potato wedges and coffee, which sweetens the deal, and makes it more worth the money. Some fast-food breakfasts are so heavy that they upset my stomach afterward, making it hard to focus when I work, and I didn’t get this feeling after eating Wendy’s Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. In that case, it’s a better value for me than a less expensive alternative that makes me feel uncomfortable afterward.

Final Verdict

This is a solid breakfast choice from Wendy’s. Sometimes there are inconsistencies in the quality of the biscuits – they taste more fresh some days than others, but overall, they’re delicious, they’re not over-filling, and they remind me of my Saturday morning biscuits with my grandma. Wendy’s may have some work to do in catching up with McDonald’s or Chick-Fil-A, but it’s up there. So overall, I think the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is a delicious breakfast choice.
