If you’re anything like me, a great coffee will always make your day more cheerful. This is why I am a huge coffee fan and strive to drink it regularly. I also enjoy experimenting with my coffee. And when a cafe or coffee shop offers an innovative take on the beverage I am very excited about trying it.

In all honesty, I’ve only had the pleasure of trying Starbucks’ Flat White espresso however it was released out just a few years ago. It’s becoming one of their main drinks.

How is a Flat White Made?

This kind that coffee has is built on espresso, but with the addition of steaming milk. It’s perfect for those who enjoy the taste of cream in their beverage but also like the intense flavor of really powerful coffee.

Flat whites are typically comprised of two-shots espresso, mixed with milk that’s been steam boiled, as well as the addition of a layer of microfoam to finish it off.

The Difference Between Flat White and Latte

The primary thing that differentiates the latte from simple white, is the proportion of espresso to milk. The texture of milk is quite similar in both drinks, but flat whites are more aerated, which makes it slightly smoother. Flat whites tend to be consumed in smaller cups than lattes. Starbucks’ Flat White comes only in Tall and Tall, but you can get Lattes served made in Grande and even Venti.

How Does a Flat White Compare to a Latte?

For a stronger and more concentrated cup of coffee Flat White is a coffee with more concentration. Flat White has less milk and consequently has a stronger flavor of the coffee. Since two shots of coffee are required to make this Flat White it also has more caffeine.

Taste and Texture 5/5

The first thing to note is that you’ll be amazed that baristas at each Starbucks are fairly similar to how the coffee is prepared. When it’s done right it’s a decent beverage. It is very rich in coffee flavor and the microfoam from the milk makes it very smooth.

Although it contains less milk than traditional latte it is better and is smoother in addition.

Is It Healthy? 4/5

Starbucks’ Flat White contains 170 calories 9g of fat and 14g of carbs and 9g of protein. All of it comes from milk since the coffee itself does not have any nutritional value. However, it does contain 154mg of caffeine. Since there’s less milk in a flat white compared to the latte, it contains fewer calories. If you’re trying to lose weight but are not willing to quit the milk every day changing from the latte to a flat white might be a better option.

Is It Worth It? 4.5/5

An oversized Starbucks Latte cost around $2.95 and the tall Flat White is $3.75, which means it’s the same amount but at a higher price. The most important aspect to take into consideration in addition to the price is because it takes a bit of expertise to create flat whites, they will vary from one Starbucks location to the next but as well from one barista to another.

Final Verdict

I’d say it’s an excellent drink, however, due to the cost, I’ll not make it a regular drink. It’s a good idea to consider it if you’re looking to change up your regular drink.
