Starbucks Banana Nut Bread is one of my favorite banana loaves of bread. With just the right amount of sweetness and moisture, it’s the perfect companion to my favorite Green Tea Frappuccino. Perfect for breakfast, an afternoon treat, or a dinner dessert, it’s always a good time to enjoy a slice. Luckily, you don’t have to go to Starbucks to purchase a slice – you can make a full loaf in your own kitchen, and enjoy it for days. That is if your family doesn’t eat it all first!
This banana bread recipe is very simple, and it only takes about 15 minutes to prepare it. During its one-hour bake time, you’ll love that the sweet aromas fill your house like a full bakery. While this recipe calls for crushed walnuts, you can substitute any nuts you like. I’ve used crushed pecans and crushed almonds for variation. I also like to sprinkle a little extra sugar and crushed nuts across the top of my loaf before baking.
Once your bread is baked, cover the loaf with saran wrap for about 10 minutes to give the top a super moist texture.

Starbucks Banana Bread

- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 egg
- 1 1/8 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 extra ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
First, preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Spray an 8×5 loaf pan with non-stick spray and line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, add flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, and whisk just until the ingredients are combined.
In another medium bowl, add the egg, sugar, and oil, and whisk until combined.
Next, add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix well. The mixture will be thick and dry. Add in the buttermilk, vanilla, and mashed bananas, and mix until combined.
Pour into a loaf pan, and sprinkle walnuts over the top.
Bake for 60-75 minutes. If you poke the loaf with a knife and the knife comes out clean, it is ready.
Slice and serve.
- You can make your own buttermilk by adding 1/2 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to 1/2 cup of milk, and letting it set for 5 minutes.
- Once the bananas start to get those brown freckles, it’s the perfect time to bake banana bread. If your bananas are ripe and ready but your not ready to bake, simply place the bananas in a ziplock freezer bag and put them in the freezer. Defrost them in the refrigerator the night before you’re ready to bake.
