Major Gifts Officer

The National Archives Foundation (NAF) is looking for an officer for Major Gifts.

In its role as an official National Archives’ nonprofit partner, The Foundation provides financial and creative support and raises public awareness of exhibitions and public programs, capital projects strategic partnerships, and educational initiatives.

The Foundation fulfills its mission through inspiring a more profound appreciation of our nation’s heritage and encouraging participation of citizens in our democratic system by presenting America’s history to citizens across all over the U.S. and the world.

The Foundation’s collaboration together with National Archives has produced numerous successes over the years. These include renovation of the Rotunda in which it is now where the Charters of Freedom are on display, the establishment of Public Vaults permanent exhibition space, DocsTeach.org education resource, and the brand new David M. Rubenstein Gallery that houses”Records of Rights “Records of Rights” permanent exhibition.

The famous Archives Building and well-known Rotunda have long lines for entry and lengthy wait times to access the museum and education areas that were constructed in the past century, which hinder an unforgettable and enjoyable visitor experience.

The Foundation’s extensive Campaign involves a complete redesign and improvements to the permanent theatre, exhibition space, areas of the learning center building, which aim to speed up the process of gaining admission, increase the number of visitors, and build an entirely new educational and museum experience for visitors rooted on civics as well as U.S culture using the most modern exhibit strategies and technologies. Alongside the physical renovations to the building and the theater, the Foundation is also working on:

  • A broadening of the Archives”civic education program” across all fifty states before at the end of 2022.
  • A major project in collaboration with an important partnership with the Smithsonian as well as the Library of Congress in 2024 investigating the implications on federal policies and laws that relate to race.
  • The nation celebrates the 250th-anniversary celebration of our birth and the signing the Declaration of Independence in 2026.
  • The establishment of permanent funds that will support the ongoing exhibition, education, and research initiatives within the National Archives. National Archives.

The ideal candidate is an ambitious, entrepreneurial self-starter with a high degree of organization with previous experience.

Scope and Responsibilities

  • Contact and then close major and planned gifts to people.
  • The management of a portfolio that includes 100 donors and prospects.
  • Participating in every step of the donor process, which includes the identification of the donor; qualification via cultivation, research, briefing, request for support and prompt follow-up acknowledgment, and stewardship.
  • Ability to be willing and able to regularly travel as medical conditions permit.
  • Ability to attend at events during evenings and weekends.
  • Portfolio review processes for departments and collaboration to manage the database of donors to ensure the stewardship of donors by updating their records.
  • Represent the Foundation to donors, partners, leaders donors, partners, and VIP guests who attend tours and events.
  • Regularly report on the system of fundraising as well as board committees and those of the Board of Directors as directed.
  • Assist the Foundation at discussions together with National Archives staff and other important policy-related stakeholders, as they are identified.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Seven or more years of prior job experience working in the same job in a museum, non-profit organization, or university is required.
  • Successful solicitation experience for major donations and/or capital campaigns
  • Proven ability to raise 5–, 6-, and 7-figure contributions from individual foundations, corporations, and individual groups
  • Experienced ability to communicate and influence leaders in the field of philanthropy
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to present
  • Ability to function effectively in a team setting and thrive working on your own
  • An intense passion for American civic engagement, history, or museums
  • Experience with Raiser’s edge is recommended or similar systems for fundraising
  • Experience with database management, Microsoft Office, and other commonly used computer skills
